Mary has her own recognised hallmark which is struck by London Assay Office on her sterling silver pieces weighing over 7.78g.

A hallmark is proof that an item is of the standard of fineness.

Here is an example of Mary’s hallmark.

Next to her initials “MAS”, you can see a lion symbol that stands for sterling silver. These are followed by the fitness mark – “925” (not very distinct); then the Assay Office mark – a jaguar’s head which stands for their London office; and finally a date letter “t”, indicating the year of stamping as 2018.
